This Privacy Policy is designed to comply with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) and details our strict data collection, usage, and safety safeguards for children's educational content.
1. Information We Collect
We strictly limit the amount of personal data collected from children.
- Parental Information: We collect parent name, email address, password, and subscription information (via Apple App Store subscriptions) during initial account configuration.
- Child Profiles: Parents configure profiles for their children. We collect a chosen nickname (e.g. "Alex") and grade year. Real full names are never required or requested.
- Chat History & Audio Transcripts: Homework helper prompts (text, photos of worksheets, voice input) are processed to deliver tutoring help via Google Gemini APIs. Chats are stored securely to let children view their past solved questions in the "Spark Vault".
2. How We Use Information
Information is only used to deliver Sparky's educational homework help, track learning progress (such as daily quiz streaks and sparks earned), generate weekly summaries for parents, and send emails requesting upgrades. We never use kids' content or prompt history for advertising or external tracking purposes.
3. Data Privacy and Third-Party Sub-Processors
Sparky shares limited data with the following platforms strictly to execute App features:
- Google Firebase & Firestore: Database holding profiles and chat records.
- Google Gemini API: Large language models used to deliver encouraging answers. We configure our APIs to ensure that inputs are not used for public model training.
- ElevenLabs: Text-to-speech API used to read Sparky's responses aloud on device.
- Resend / SMTP: Email services used to deliver parental updates and weekly summaries.
4. Parental Controls and Data Erasure
Parents hold absolute control over their family accounts. From the Parents Dashboard in the app, parents can delete children's profiles, clear historical chats, or request complete account deletion. Alternatively, contact us at hello@sparky.club to request manual data erasure.
5. Safety Guardrails
We implement automated keyword checkers and filtering prompts to prevent the ingestion of inappropriate material and protect children.
